simple family, simple life ..But his records are extraordinary and he has contributed a lot to our shia community.
He
is Rehan Azmi from Pakistan ..the famous writer of Nohas. His contributions and sincerity got him into
the Guinness Book of World Records in 1997 for being the 7th speediest writers of
poetry in this world !! Syed Rehan Azmi was born in 1953 in Karachi and believe it or not, inside an Imambargah !! He is a teacher by profession in a darsgah in Karachi . Around the globe where ever there are even a handful of shia’s, Rehan Azmi is well known .In remote places whereever the name of HusseinA.S is known, Rehan's nohas link the people to their roots and fill their hearts with grief and mourning .During the last decade his fame has taken him to Iraq, India ,Iran ,Russia, China ,Germany ,UAE , America ,Korea ,Britain ,Canada to name a few ..The most amazing and praise worthy fact remains that he does not take hadiya for his famous nohas from any body .He writes around 600 nohas per year for approx 200 anjumans in Pakistan !!His counterparts and those who read his nohas earn in lakhs. Rehan remains a lover of Imam Hussein A.S. and strongly believes that he will be rewarded by Ahlulbait A.S. Rehan did not always write nohas ,he wrote ghazals and geet as well for Pakistan TV .The famous song “hwa hwa “ which became a hit everywhere was written by him too .From 1982 –1987 Rehan Azmi wrote 4000 songs for PTV .That was his important means of earning a livelihood ,but the public would not have a noha khan writing songs and the pressure was so great that he finally quit writing songs completely after 1988 .Rehan Azmi said he just wrote ghazals he didn’t sing them …but that’s life .. Being a father of three children life became tough but that didn’t stop him from refusing money which was offered to him for writing nohas . Rehan Azmi also has the credit of writing a no. of noha books and books of qaseedas . The books on nohas are as follows : |
